Losing Your Salvation

Reading Time: 7 minutes

So many people claim to be in love with Christ Jesus yet they live their life so far from His want for them to be. Why so much contradiction and hypocrisy is there in so many people who claim to be Christian? Sometimes the more scripture quoting the person, the less Christ like the person is when it comes to his or her living their life. Often times the scripture quoting person is by far living a life which is not as moral as many atheists. Examples of this has been seen over and over again and again through the many scandals over the years of TV evangelists and others in the ministry.

From this type of scandal’s existence in not just TV evangelists but in many ordinary people who make the claim they are a Christian, I’ve had many atheists tell me that someone claiming to be a Christian is merely staking claims that they have “fire insurance” meaning that the “Christian” can now do whatever the “Christian” wants to do (murder, theft, hate, adultery, lust, rape, etc.) but not go to hell. These atheists say that being a “Christian” is merely “obtaining” the approval from God to now do whatever it is that the “Christian” wants to do but now has God’s protection (fire insurance) from going to hell. From their personal experience with these people who “claim to be” a Christian, these atheists tell me that they see no difference between those people who claim to be a “Christian” and those who don’t.

It may be a bit shocking to some of these atheists that I agree with them because they are right about these people who claim to be a Christian who live a worldly life. The fact is, is that these atheists who have told me that they have seen many people who “claim” to be a Christian acting no differently than someone who doesn’t “claim” to be a Christian are right about these people who “claim” to be a Christian merely treating being a Christian as “fire insurance.” These people who “claim” to be Christian who act as people who are not Christian are not truly following Christ Jesus. Not following Christ Jesus means that they are not truly Christian because the word, “Christian” means follower of Christ Jesus.

No one can both be a Christian and not submit to Christ Jesus. To be a Christian, one must submit to Christ Jesus’ teachings and follow in His example of loving God and loving people. To claim to be a Christian and not love God and love people is not logical and goes against what is written in the Holy Bible.

Jesus said in John 3:3, “no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” and goes on and tells us in John 3:3-8 that, “no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

Jesus is telling us in these passages in the book of John that people don’t enter the kingdom of Heaven by living a better life; but by their being “spiritually reborn” meaning that all true believers have the power of God’s Holy Spirit within them. All true believers of Christ Jesus have God’s Holy Spirit empowered within them and available in them. Having God’s Holy Spirit within you allows you to feel and see the truth and it is like no other experience you’ve ever encountered.

What this means is that a true follower of Christ Jesus lives his or her life differently than someone who doesn’t follow Christ Jesus. In other words, a Christian can be picked out easily from those people who are not a Christian because the Christian lives differently than people who do not follow Christ Jesus. An example of this comes to us in 1 John 4:20; “If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.” Here the scripture is telling us that someone who truly loves God will also love everyone on earth and putting this together with what Jesus told us in John 3:3-8, it puts the picture together for us to see that a Christian (true follower of Christ Jesus) lives his or her life differently than someone who is not a Christian because non-Christians have no reason to not commit murder, theft, hate, adultery, lust, rape, etc. all of which is a form of hate in various degree. A follower of Christ Jesus however, is seen as different because he and she actually love everyone; including those who curse and conceding while accusing them of being intellectually challenged.

“But wait,” you say; “Doesn’t God’s grace and mercy through Christ Jesus’ perfect life, suffering and death on the cross, and His rising from death cover all of our sins; past, present, and future?” Yes, it does however one first must truly submit his or her life to Christ Jesus in order to receive God’s gift of salvation and not just “claim” to be a Christian in order to be saved.

Jesus said in Revelation 3:15-18, `I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. Because you say, "I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,  I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.’

Jesus in Revelation 3:15-18 is saying that if the person who claims to be following Him, (claiming to be a Christian) is not fully committed to Him, that this person is virtually worthless. Jesus isn’t saying that the person has backslidden, He is saying that the person doesn’t have genuine faith in Him as savior. Simply put, Jesus tells us that these people don’t have nor did they ever have salvation through Him because they have not ever committed their life to Him as their savior. These people even though they claim they are Christian, they totally rely upon themselves and do things their way and not upon Christ Jesus and not do things His way. In Matthew 12:30, Jesus said, "He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters.” This is exactly what people who merely claim to be Christian do; with their worldly ways not being committed to Christ Jesus, they push people away from Jesus.

The person who lives a worldly life, who doesn’t take a stand for anything, who lives in indifference, idleness, and is only halfheartedly and in-name only Christian who is self-sufficient is repulsive to Christ Jesus. The only one true way to not be repulsive to Christ Jesus and to gain actual wealth is to fully commit to Christ Jesus as your savior and do things His way, not your own way. Actual wealth isn’t worldly belongings, power in the world, or great fame within the world, it is the heartfelt feeling of the love of Christ Jesus submitting to His will for your life and knowing that without a doubt you are not going to be spit out of His mouth for being lukewarm.

Don’t settle for following God in-name only because there isn’t a halfway as Jesus has clearly told us. Make your faith to Christ Jesus known to Him by truly submitting to Him and accepting Him as your savior. Let Christ fire your faith up and get you into the action of His ways. Once you do this, you too will understand and enjoy the perfect love of God which enters into you via His Holy Spirit, leading you to deeper truth and understanding that opens your mind to the will of God and the longing to do God’s will in your life and your submission to God in doing His will over your own.

Oh, and no, once you truly accept Christ Jesus as your savior (and only you and God know when that commitment actually occurs yet people everywhere will see and know the change in your life afterwards) there is no question in your mind about losing your salvation because Christ Jesus confirms to you each moment of the day His precious love for you and you each moment of the day reaffirm your love for Him.

Commit your life to Christ Jesus today and live in the wealth of His perfect love for you and know without question your salvation as you live His will for your life.

Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; Let those who love Your salvation say continually, "The LORD be magnified!" (Psalms 40:16)

My heart's desire and my prayer to God for you is for your salvation.
