Contemplating Suicide?
Here are just a few recent headlines that come nowhere close to describing today’s issue of suicide:
• A Princeton University Spanish teacher committed suicide in Chelsea after the Ivy League school failed to renew his contract.
• A man shot and killed his girlfriend and two 5-year-old twins before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide inside an SUV that was witnessed by three other children.
• Police are calling a Saturday afternoon’s shooting in Fairfield a murder-suicide after the gunman killed a man and woman and injured a second man before shooting himself.
• A fifth teenager has admitted she participated in the bullying of a 15-year-old Massachusetts girl who later committed suicide.
Really, this is a very serious question; are you thinking about committing suicide? You need to deeply consider your circumstances and your reactions to your current situations. You should never commit suicide… no matter what happens on earth. Suicide is murdering one’s self. Murder is against God’s commandments and thus is a sin and if you murder yourself, you don’t have any opportunity to repent of your act of self murder.
In the USA, the number of emergency department visits for self-inflicted injury was 666,000 and the total number of suicides was 34,598 in 2008. Currently, every 15 minutes, someone in Japan takes his or her own life in the island nation of 127 million, establishing suicide as the leading cause of death among Japanese men ages 20 to 44 and women ages 15 to 34.
The potential for depression is out there and becomes especially more likely when a person loses all hope because of their employment and/or financial situation; their breakup of marriage, or their boyfriend or girlfriend; bullies constant harassments; a loss of a loved one; sickness or a combination of pressing situations such as these. Thus the main issue with depression is what a person’s placement of hope is based upon.
You should never put your hope into your employment and financial situation because these are highly volatile and subject to change in an instant. No matter how stable you think your employment situation is, you can be unemployed. No matter how stable your financial situation is, you can become broke. No matter how healthy you are or how well established you think you are, your life can be disrupted in an instant due to things outside of your control.
You must remember that you are worth far more than your employment and financial status, even more valuable than your marital/dating status; and you are worth much more than what any bullies around you are saying about you. You are completely unique. You are a one of a kind individual and no one else is like you because there is only one you. There will only ever be one you. There was never you, before you were born.
You are made in God’s image with a purpose. (Proverbs 16:4) God’s unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 1:5) God invites us to participate in the greatest, largest, most diverse, and most significant cause in history – his kingdom by sharing His love with everyone. (1 Peter 3:15) God tells us to have nothing to do with worldly myths and fables and to discipline ourselves for the purpose of godliness. (1 Timothy 4:7) God tells us to study and gain knowledge and to not be ignorant of fact and to refuse foolish and ignorant speculations. (Proverbs 4:5, 7; 16:16: 2 Timothy 2:23)
‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.’ (Romans 15:13)
‘Also, do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal; store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.’ (Matthew 6:19-21)
‘For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.’ (John 3:16)
‘Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.’ Romans 5:1-5
‘The same thing gets said about us when we embrace and believe the One who brought Jesus to life when the conditions were equally hopeless. The sacrificed Jesus made us fit for God, set us right with God.’ Romans 4:24-25
It is your choice to make whether or not to murder yourself. I suggest that you make a wise choice and not commit murder. Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. (James 4:14)
If you murder yourself, then your tomorrow will always be without hope. ‘What hope do people without God have when life is cut short?’ (Job 27:8)
